Fourth of July Recap

We woke up early (for me anyway!) and went to see the 4th of July Parade in a neighborhood. After slathering on plenty of sunscreen we hunkered down on on some prime real estate.

Hubby went and got all of us some water ice to cool off. It was really hot and humid and we were on the sunny side of the street. Lemon water ice on a hot humid day=yum!

Finally we heard the parade coming down the street! It was full of marching bands and floats...

I felt a little bit silly but started to cry when I saw how proud these gentlemen were to be carrying our flag with such honor.

My girls were waving their flags and so excited.

One of the clowns came over to show the girls her giant shoes. They wanted to know if her feet were really that big.

After the parade we made our way home to relax and for a while. The girls and I made some delicious lemon cupcakes with lemon coconut frosting and red white and blue sprinkles. After a dinner of hamburgers, potato salad and watermelon we went to see fireworks. By the time we all got home and showered and in bed it was so late. It was a great day!

Checking off that summer list

 Making fruit smoothie ice pops...

...loaded with strawberries, blueberries, vanilla yogurt and ground flax seed. Yummy!

Cuddling with one of our fuzzy buddies on the couch...
...trying to figure out how to get the hamster out of the ball...

...a little playdough on the porch...
...with a lot of bed head going on...

...pets are never far away from these girls...

 ...the hydrangeas are in bloom...
I love the different colors on opposite sides of the house.

We are loving these lazy days of summer around here!
Reading on the porch, this girl always has a book handy. Now going into second grade, she's just started reading Little Women. I'm so proud of her!
Now off to Home Depot to pick up some paint and trim for various projects around the house.
